On Wednesday the Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said “Mexico will not accept” the deportation policies of the Trump Administration. The foreign minister even suggested that he will “not hesitate to take the issue to the United nations to defend rights of immigrants.” These comments come before Videgaray is set to meet with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and DHS Secretary John Kelly.
“I want to make it clear in the most emphatic way that the government of Mexico and the people of Mexico do not have to accept provisions that one government wants to unilaterally impose on another,” Videgaray said, according to Univision. “We will not accept that because we have no reason to; it is not in the interest of the Mexico.”
The new guidelines issued by DHS will place those caught crossing the border to be placed in prison while awaiting deportation. DHS is hiring 10,000 ICE agents and is building detentions center so that once the immigrant’s case is finalized they will be immediately deported.
The Immigration issue has caused stress on the Mexican-USA relations. Especially now that it was also revealed that aid money the US has originally given to Mexico may go to the border wall. Mexican officials are also upset that they would receive illegal immigrants that came through Mexico and then entered into the US.
I would love to see Mexico try and take the US before the UN about this. Could you imagine President Trump speaking at the UN? Before Trump was President he volunteered to kick them out and build condominiums. Mexico may want to remember the original Texas flag “Come and Get It” before they pick a fight with the USA.
