Tinder changed the way we look at dates. Now, it wants to revolutionize our social lives. The popular sex-app now has a social side. It started letting people create matches as groups, with a new feature called Tinder Social.

Tinder Social is supposed to make it easier for you to plan the night, get out there and meet new people.  This is what Tinder CEO and founder Sean Rad stated on Thursday.

Why should you care? And why use Tinder? Well, in an age where people use phones to run their lives, an app could feel like an easy way to meet somebody.

The “swipe right for yes” gave tinder the reputation of facilitating flings. However, a lot of people use it as a dating website. Tinder is trying hard to see how far it can reach beyond dating.

It isn’t the first app to have a social side. Squad, which was launched in 2015, allows groups –or “squads” – up to six people to join and do stuff together or find other groups.

Another popular app is Grouper. It’s only available for New Yorkers at the moment. It works by arranging a date between two friend groups of two people who like each other.

And let’s not forget Meetup and Craigslist. These trustworthy services have been out there in the dating world long before some Tinder users were born.

If you’re a Tinder user, you can access the social function or choose to avoid it. If you do want to access it, you’ve got to create a group of one to three friends who also have the function. You can pick statuses like “happy hour” or “come watch the game”.

And then the usual swiping begins. Once a match between two groups is made, the members can make plans. Conversations expire by noon of the following day.

If somebody doesn’t like the group thing, they can leave it. Or, the person who created it from starters can choose to shut it down. The new social feature of Tinder was tested in Australia, originally. Now it is available in the US, UK, New Zealand, Canada and – surprise- India.
