Trump meets Indian Partners despite claiming to pass Business to his Children

Over the weekend, Donald Trump met with his Indian business partners just a week after he was elected president of the United States. He also met with his three eldest children: Ivanka, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump. This move is interesting because it proves the opposite of what Trump has been claiming. That he will hand over the business to his children and that he has “blind trust” in them. He apparently wanted to do this in order to avoid any conflict of interest, while he is president. But what he does apparently does not have anything to do with what he said.

Trump’s mistrust

According to a representative of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, this move only proves that Donald Trump does not possess that “blind trust” in his children. He probably feels like he will lose control over his business if he handles it to anyone else, so he decided not to. Specialists believe that the best solution for him might be to just sell his business to someone non-family related. The, he can further invest the money in anything else and nobody will say that he creates any conflict of interest.

Raised eyebrows

As for the meeting, Donald Trump discussed the continued development of his projects in India. Reportedly, they also discussed their mutual interests and Indian government policy. But the problem is that Trump might be using these foreign meetings for his own benefit. Critics took as an example his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Trump’ daughter, Ivanka, was also there and she is the executive vice president of development and acquisitions for the Trump Organization. Now the question is: why was she there if that was only a presidential-related meeting?

Another bizarre sign is that Trump’s business partner in the Philippines will be Manila’s envoy to the United States. He will be dealing with trade and investment issues.

Trump’s Indian business

Currently, Trump Organization has been involved in five projects in India. Two of them are with the Chordias’ Panchshil Realty. The luxury condos built by Panchshil in big cities like Mumbai or Pune have Donald Trump’s name on them. Also in Mumbai, another company, the Lodha Group, is also building a condo-building with Trump’s brand. Office buildings and residential condos are also among the many projects of Donald Trump’s Organization in India.

The main problem here is that many foreign leaders will eventually seek various opportunities from Donald trump obtained through his businesses. One of his hotels in Washington held an informative session destined for foreign diplomats. This might pour money directly into Trump’s pockets because all those important faces will come and stay at his hotels. According to one of them, it is “rude” to say no to the president and to book a room into one of his competitor’s hotels.

All in all, it seems like Donald Trump is seeking to establish his businesses by using his newly-appointed position as head of the state. In terms of morality and integrity, it may not be a smart move. But it will undoubtedly make his business more successful, and this is probably exactly what he wants.
