The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees are here

The list of artists nominated to be included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has just been revealed. It includes some interesting choices. What is different from the last years is the fact that there are 19 artists considered, not 15. Among them there are names like Journey, Pearl Jam, Yes, the Cars, Tupac Shakur, Janet Jackson or Electric Light Orchestra.

Pearl Jam, big favorite

This morning, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation chief, Joel Peresman, made the announcement on a radio station. Pearl Jam is one of the main favorites to be included in the Hall of Fame. They have just become eligible to do so. An artist or a band can be included if 25 years have passed since the release of their first album. The ceremony will take place in April 2017, and will later be available for everyone to watch on HBO.

Fans are the ones who will decide who will join the Hall of Fame. They can vote on their website until December 5. After this, their votes will be merged with other musician’s votes, including every member of the Hall of Fame.

Opinions

Many people have said that the Hall of Fame cannot surprise anyone. But still, each years’ nominees seem to raise a few brows. Some people think that more metal band and artists should be included.

Many do not seem surprised at all by the list. Even Tupac Shakur does not come as a surprise because they have done this before with other artists. Janet Jackson is also unsurprising. Older rock fans think that there is a little surprise each year. Many of them are still angry each year that some apparently obscure band or artist got to be included on a list near the names of Elvis Presley or Chuck Berry. For them, this does not seem fair. It is all subjective, and subjectivity will always be a reason for riot.

Some are surprised, some are not

Other people think that what the team behind this year’s list has done is an attempt to realize how did rock music evolve. Years have passed, and older fans are still missing the classic rock music. While other younger ones are listening to today’s rock music. They are the same genre, but not the same music anymore. Also, the committee might try to include some names which did not have particularly huge sales, but had a huge impact on fans. The band Yes might have been included on the list in memory of Chris Squire, their band member who has passed away. But it is wrong to think that just because of this, a band managed to get somewhere important.

All in all, opinions are very different. Many fans still hope that the Hall of Fame committee will finally include on the list artists like Jon Bon Jovi or bands like Judas Priest, Dep Leppard or Iron Maiden. Hope is not lost and it seems like they are trying a different approach. Some fans might get their wish after all.
