The new laptop hybrid and smartphones launched by Alcatel are presented at the Mobile World Congress this year. Furthermore, the company has changed the name of one of its brands in order to give a fresh touch to its products.
Until now, Alcatel had the OneTouch branch that included numerous of its electronic devices. However, this name has been cut from the brand and the logo was changed. These modifications come just in time for the launch of two new smartphones: Idol 4 and 4S. Both devices are equipped with Android 6.01 Marshmallow and feature a “Boom Key” located on the phone’s side. This special customizable key gives users access to various functions including the gallery, the camera and games.
Idol 4 comes with a Snapdragon 617 processor with eight cores, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal memory and a MicroSD slot which allows users to store files up to 512GB. Furthermore, it has a Full HD 5.2–inch display, a rear camera of 13 megapixels with flash and a front camera of eight megapixels, also equipped with flash.
However, the 4S surpasses its sibling with better specs, as it comes with a Snapdragon 652 SoC processor with eight cores, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and the same MicroSD slot. The device is equipped with a Quad HD AMOLED 5.5-inch display, a 16-megapixel front camera and an eight megapixel front camera, both of them with flash.
Both smartphones come in several different colors: gold, silver, rose gold or dark gray, and are encased in metal which gives them a sleek look, in spite of the fact they are supposed to be budget phones.
The company has also launched a hybrid laptop named Plus 10. The device comes with Windows 10 and has an Atom Z8350 processor from Intel, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal memory and a MicroSD slot that you can use to store up to 64GB of files. The tablet is equipped with a rear camera of five megapixels and a front one of two megapixels, front-facing dual speakers, a 5,830mAh battery and a 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution screen.
The tablet stays connected to the keyboard through some magnets that unfortunately do not seem strong enough to make sure it does not slip and crash to the ground as you walk around with it. Overall, the whole device does not look too sturdy, and the trackpad could be larger. The laptop will be available in three colors: white, gray and black.
The new laptop hybrid and smartphones launched by Alcatel will be available from April onwards in Europe, but no date has been specified for the U.S. Idol 4 will cost €280, the 4S €450 and the Plus 10 laptop €250 for the version with Wi-Fi and €350 for the one with 4G.
